Butterfly-hole Shelving: Structure and Choice

Butterfly-hole rack is a medium-to-light-duty shelving rack. Uprights are assembled with horizontal and diagonal bracing into upright frames, then fitted with beams and shelf panels. It gets its name from the butterfly-shaped punched holes on the uprights, and is a common steel rack in company storerooms, convenience stores, clothing and accessory shops.

Structure and load capacity. Uprights are generally roll-formed from 80×40 cold-rolled plate, with bracing connected by square or round tubes. Shelf panels can be cold-rolled steel or wood boards; level height is adjustable in 50 mm steps up and down the upright. Conventional load is 200 to 700 kg per level. Panelled or panel-less options can be configured as needed, and isolation mesh can be added around the sides on site.

Beam options. Two common beam designs: one welds an angle steel to one side of a rectangular tube so the shelf panel rests on a ledge; the other uses a P-profile as the beam, with the panel similarly sitting on the ledge. Both are plug-in combinations for easy assembly and disassembly.

Appearance and applications. Butterfly-hole racks commonly come in light gray, royal blue, orange-red and black, and colors can be customized to company requirements. Besides storeroom use, they are also widely used for display and storage in clothing, accessory and convenience stores, and can be supplied for export.
